Want to get free money? Here are 14 ways how to do it:

1. Monetizing traffic from Instagram or blog posts

I see a lot of people with huge followers base on social media. But they don’t do anything to monetize it.

For example, check how much Youtubers Make.

Even if you have a couple of thousands of followers, you can monetize your account with sponsorship posts, brand ambassadorships, or affiliate marketing. Recently Amazon launched a new program called Amazon Influencer. The program is designed for social media influencers with large followers base to create a storefront with favorite products such as beauty products, accessories, or gadgets.

If you have a popular social media account, there are literally free money you get claim by monetizing it.

My example here is how I monetized the Call It Adventure blog by sharing the products and services I’ve tried and loved. Before implementing affiliate marketing, the blog was just plain text. If a reader would want to buy a product I liked he would have to google it – such a waste of time for a consumer and a waste of money for me.

2. 401k Match

If the company where you work offers a 401k match, just take it. It is wise to invest in retirement accounts on many levels, so you should do it anyway, especially when your employer offers a match.

3. Find a saving account with a high interest rate

Once in a while, look for offers from banks for saving accounts. Banks can offer better rates of a bonus once you switch. This is how to get free money for a simple relocation.

For example, right now Chase has $500 offer for new checking and new saving account.

4. Open a new credit card with rewards

Many credit cards offer bonuses, cashback, or points that can be redeemed for travel or anything else. This is free money that can be spent on entertainment.

Here is my favorite credit card I use to everyday purchases and use rewards for travel: Chase Sapphire Preferred. This credit card gives 60,000 points that are equal to $750 towards travel when you spend $4,000 on purchases for the first 3 months. I spend way more than that, so it was a great deal for me. I bought tickets to Europe for these points. Consider it a free European vacation for just switching credit cards.

But beware. If you’re planning to apply for a loan, mortgage, or refinance, opening new credit cards can lower your credit score. Therefore apply for new credit cards when you’re not planning to obtain a loan. Or wait for the closing and apply then.

9. Cancel subscriptions

I’m a fan of frugal living and a true believer that you can entertain yourself without paying a buck. Therefore I strongly suggest canceling the subscriptions that don’t provide value but make you spend money.

10. Refinance

Every time I talk with my mortgage agent, there are options to refinance and get a lower rate. Shop around for a lower rate for any loan you may have, either it is a student loan, a car loan, or a mortgage.

Mortgage tip to keep in mind: every time you refinance the mortgage for another 30 years, it means that you’ll have to pay the mortgage for 30 years after refinancing. For example, if you’ve been paying a 30 years mortgage for 10 years and decided to refinance and choose the option to refinance for 30 years with a low rate, you postpone paying off the mortgage.

Just keep in mind that when you refinance, you get the number of years start from the beginning. Therefore it can be a smart idea to refinance for a smaller range. For example, recently, I’ve refinanced my condo for a much lower rate for 15 years instead of 30 and saved thousands.

11. Sell stuff you don’t need

Adopt frugal living tips and sell things you don’t need or don’t use on or eBay, Craigslist, or Facebook Marketplace.

12. Sell books you don’t need

Do you have college books that gather dust on the shelves? Well, this is free money just lying there. Sell the books you don’t need on eBay or Declutter. You’ll make money and help someone save on expensive college books.

13. Apply for grants

Whenever you’ll have to pay a big amount of money for something, research for any grants or relief programs. It can be anything from school grants, scholarships, business relief programs, and even mortgage help. If you qualify, you’ll get free money just for going an extra mile and doing proper research.

14. Crowdfund

Whenever you have a brilliant start-up idea, but the stopper is the absence of finances, try crowdfunding.

There are several crowdfunding platforms, such as GoFundMe or KickStarter. You can start a campaign to raise money if you have a serious cause and get free money for that cause.

Final thoughts

While a lot of people think there is no such thing as free money, I suggest thinking outside the box. There are many options to get free money in bonuses, discounts, or rewards for things you already do. Therefore all you need to do is look into things you do and find ways to get free money in rewards and bonuses.
